Solar power is the technology used to harness the sun’s energy and make it useable.Even though only a small fraction of that heat ever reaches the earth it is still more then enough to power the whole world.Since the cost of energy has again hit the roof, the people of planet earth is looking towards solar nergy.Renewable energy costs have decreased significantly over the past several years as solar prices dropped dramatically .On average, the earth receives 164 Watts of solar energy per square meter. This works out to 84 billion kWh of potential electrical generation per day..the solar technology produced less than one tenth of one percent of global energy demand.the very form of solar thechnology avaiable among us is the photovoltaic cells, or solar panels, found on things like spacecraft, rooftops, and handheld calculators.The cells are made of semiconductor materials mainly silicon like found in computer chips. When sunlight hits the cells, it knocks electrons loose from their atoms due to instrintic dope . As the electrons flow through the cell, they generate electricity.which is later converted into different usable forms.solar thermal energy is been getting popularity in the remote and cold regions where supply of fossil fuel has been a mammoth task. various techniques to concentrate the sun’s energy as a heat source. The heat is then used to boil water to drive a steam turbine like steam engine providing mechanical strength like any other power supplier engine.Passive solar technologies(technology that doesnt trigger mechanical functions ) are in the spot light these days .Such technologies convert sunlight into usable heat (in water, air, and thermal mass), cause air-movement for ventilating for air , or future use, with little use of other energy sources.sorium,sunrooms,green houses are the examples of the criteria.Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the Sun, selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light-dispersing properties, and designing spaces that naturally circulate air.sun is extreamly important for the manipulation of other energies like wind energy ,ocen energy, geo thermal energy.solar energy is essential for the photophosphoralation which is the producer factor of all living food chain.Solar energy is lauded as an inexhaustible fuel source that is pollution- and often noise-free.It does not pollute the air by releasing harmful gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide or sulphur oxide. So, the risk of damage to the environment is reduced.the maintaining cost is lowest to it”s level.and the technology is kept upto date as no complicated hardware /software is changed in progress.though there are also lmitations of this thecnology,we are not allowed to have sun for the whole 24 hrs ,rather in some areas it’s less than 24 hours.rainy days,winter blistering cold days,foggy days can negetively manipulate the production of solar energy production.solar eneergy is cheap in production,but the storage cost is higher as they are stored in a off grid system.and also the installment of the solar technology can be a costly one.Even though the disadvantages have taken a quite round figure of the economical chart,the solar power is main solution of power crisis of today’s earth .organisations and scientists should take necessary steps to come forward with the initiatives to make this solar power more user friendy and available to all over the world.
