Scarlet Pimpernel Essay The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy is a novel for the reader who is intrigued by the romance and love rollercoaster of emotions in a time of despair. The Scarlet Pimpernel is a mysterious Englishmen who risks everything, including his life to help French aristocrats escape the oppression of the revolutionary government in 1792 France. Everyone just assumes since that is the name of the book he must be the main character correct? Who really carries all the problems in the book and faces the real deal? Lady Blackney is the real protagonist of The Scarlet Pimpernel.Lady Blakeney, while living in France as an actress, was famous for her stunning looks, but even more for her charm,shrewdness, and intellect. When she marries Percy Blakeney, no one’s quite sure what she’s doing. Since he’s thought of as a  dumb, and ignorant man and she a renowned genius, the conclusion is that she’s married down. She hears of the talk of the Scarlet Pimpernel (not realizing its her husband as his identity is a secret) and falls in love with him. She is smuggled out by the super hero of their time the man himself, known none other than  the Scarlet Pimpernel. She is then transported directly to England, she is taken to the Fisherman’s Rest inn. This is where she comes in contact with  young men who work for the League of the Scarlet Pimpernel: all of them have sworn to obey and  die for their him. Also staying at the exact same place as her is Marguerite St. Just, who came to England and married one of the prettiest gentlemen of England the stupid even though his head is in the right place, Lord Percy Blakeney AKA the Scarlet Pimpernel. Lady Blakeney is met by a man from France, who tell her he will hurt her brother if she does not help him solve who the Scarlet Pimpernel is. At the night party, she gains loads of helpful details from one of the League, which helps to find the scarlet.
